Overview

SGNL (“we”, “our”, or “us”) provides a web application and Chrome extension that lets you save and analyze YouTube videos using AI. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your choices.

Chrome Extension — Data Collected

The SGNL Chrome extension collects the following data:

  • Google account email address. Collected during Google OAuth sign-in and stored locally in your browser (via chrome.storage.local) solely to display your account in the extension popup. It is not transmitted to SGNL's servers.
  • Authentication token (Firebase ID token). Stored locally in your browser after sign-in and sent as a Bearer token in API requests to authenticate you. It is not logged or retained on our servers beyond request validation.
  • YouTube video URL. When you explicitly click “Add to SGNL”, the URL of the current YouTube video is sent to our servers to save it to your project. No other browsing activity or history is collected.

Web Application — Data Collected

When you use the SGNL web application at sgnl.so, we collect:

  • Account information. Your name, email address, and Google profile photo, provided via Google OAuth when you create an account.
  • Content you create. YouTube playlist and video URLs you import, project names, notes, and other content you add to SGNL.
  • Payment information. Billing is handled by Stripe. We do not store credit card numbers or payment details on our servers.
  • Usage data. Standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited) used for security and service reliability. We do not sell or share this data.

How We Use Your Data

  • To authenticate you and maintain your session
  • To provide SGNL's core features (saving videos, generating AI summaries)
  • To process payments via Stripe
  • To improve the service and diagnose issues

We do not sell your personal data to third parties, and we do not use your data for advertising.

Third-Party Services

  • Google OAuth — for authentication
  • Firebase (Google) — for database and authentication infrastructure
  • OpenAI — powers AI-generated summaries and analysis
  • Stripe — for payment processing

Data Retention

Your data is retained as long as your account is active. You may delete your account and associated data at any time by contacting us. Authentication tokens stored by the Chrome extension are cleared when you sign out.
